Margashirsha Month 2025: The Divine Significance of Worshipping Lord Krishna with Tulsi and Conch

Margashirsha Month 2025: As soon as the holy month of Kartik ends, the auspicious month of Margashirsha begins — filling the atmosphere with devotion, purity, and divine energy. According to the scriptures, the Devas (celestial beings) began the New Year during this sacred month in Satyuga. Hence, Margashirsha is considered one of the most auspicious months in the Hindu calendar, dedicated especially to the worship of Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna.

Divine Importance of Margashirsha

The Bhagavad Gita mentions that Lord Krishna himself said, “Among all months, I am Margashirsha.” This declaration alone highlights its spiritual magnitude. Devotees believe that prayers, fasting, and acts of devotion performed in this month yield results equivalent to those performed throughout the year.

During Margashirsha, devotees worship Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu using Tulsi leaves (holy basil) and Shankha (conch shell), which hold immense spiritual significance in Hinduism. Chanting the Gayatri Mantra during morning and evening purifies both the mind and soul.

Rituals and Offerings

According to the Skanda Purana, worshipping Lord Vishnu seated on Garuda along with Goddess Lakshmi during this month fulfills all desires. Devotees place sandalwood paste inside a conch shell and offer it to Lord Vishnu daily, accompanied by Tulsi leaves and Amla (Indian gooseberry). This ritual is believed to free one from sorrow and bring success and spiritual fulfillment.

Tulsi holds a divine position in Vaishnavism — it is said that Lord Vishnu loves Tulsi as much as Goddess Lakshmi herself. Only uncut Tulsi leaves with buds (manjari) are used for worship. Along with Tulsi, flowers like bela, chameli, kaner, madhavi lata, and vaijayanti are also offered to Lord Vishnu for divine blessings.

Auspicious Practices

Performing Aarti with a camphor lamp and ringing the temple bell after bathing and offering incense are considered highly meritorious acts in this month. It is also believed that taking a holy dip in sacred rivers or pilgrimage sites during Margashirsha grants Akshaya Punya — eternal virtue that never diminishes.

Spiritual Rewards

Devotees who worship Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu with full devotion during Margashirsha not only attain material prosperity but also achieve liberation (moksha) from the cycle of birth and death. The month stands as a symbol of faith, purity, and devotion — a sacred period when the fragrance of Tulsi and the sound of the Shankha fill every home with divine peace and blessings.

Margashirsha month reminds devotees to reconnect with spiritual values and divine consciousness. It is a time to purify the heart, surrender to Lord Krishna, and experience the essence of true devotion — where every offering of Tulsi and every sound of the conch brings us closer to the divine light.
