World Food Day 2025

World Food Day 2025: World Food Day is celebrated every year on October 16 across the globe to raise awareness about hunger, food insecurity, and the importance of sustainable agriculture.
The theme for World Food Day 2025 is Hand in hand for better food and a better future!
This theme highlights that the choices and actions we take today will determine the future of food, health, and the planet.

History of World Food Day

The history of World Food Day dates back to October 16, 1945, when the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations was founded in Rome, Italy.
The idea behind the formation of FAO was to ensure global food security and eliminate hunger from the world.

Later, in 1980, the United Nations officially established World Food Day to commemorate the founding of FAO and to spread awareness about the ongoing fight against hunger and malnutrition.

Today, this day is widely observed by international organizations such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

Objectives of World Food Day

The purpose of World Food Day is not only to remind us of the millions who go hungry every day but also to encourage actions toward building a world free of hunger.

The main objectives include:

  • Raising global awareness to fight hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.

  • Promoting agricultural growth and rural development.

  • Encouraging sustainable food production practices.

  • Enhancing cooperation between developing nations in economic and technical sectors.

  • Empowering rural communities, especially women, to participate in food production.

  • Promoting the use of modern technology and knowledge exchange between countries.

To ensure food security and sustainability, it is essential to take eco-friendly steps in daily life:

  • Use natural resources wisely.

  • Never waste food; share it with those in need.

  • Plant trees to increase greenery.

  • Avoid plastic; use reusable bags and bottles.

  • Go paperless and prefer digital options.

  • Use energy-efficient and water-saving appliances.

  • Choose organic and locally sourced foods.

World Food Day is not just an annual observance — it’s a global movement that reminds humanity of its shared responsibility to ensure that no one goes hungry.
If every individual contributes even a small effort — reducing food waste, supporting sustainable farming, or helping feed the needy — the dream of a Zero Hunger world can truly become a reality.
