The Festival of Lights of the Gods

On this day, Lord Shiva defeated the demon Tripurasura, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.  To celebrate, the gods descended to Earth and lit countless lamps along the Ganga, illuminating the world with divine light.

Importance of Ganga Snan and Deepdaan

If you can’t visit the Ganga, light five lamps at home — at the entrance, kitchen, near Tulsi, in a Shiva temple, and in the northeast corner.  These bring harmony, positivity, and wealth.

How Many Diyas to Light?

If possible, take a dip in a holy river early in the morning (Brahma Muhurat).  If not, bathe at home using Ganga Jal (holy water) mixed with your bath water. This purifies the soul and brings blessings.
