Navratri 2025 Day 8: Maa Mahagauri – Puja Rituals, Colour, Mantra & Significance

Maa Mahagauri is the eighth form of Goddess Durga. She symbolizes purity, calmness, wisdom, and prosperity. She is worshipped on Ashtami Tithi of Navratri.

Goddess of Day 8  

She has a fair, radiant complexion like the moon. Maa rides a white bull (Vrishabha). She carries a trident (Trishul) and damru in her hands.

Appearance of Maa Mahagauri  

Perform Ashtami puja with devotion. Offer white flowers, kumkum, rice, and chandan. Many devotees perform Kanya Pujan (worshipping little girls). Recite Durga Saptashati and Maa Mahagauri stotra.

Puja Rituals (Vidhi) 

White is the colour of Day 8. It represents purity, peace, and serenity. Devotees wear white attire to attract Maa’s divine blessings.

Colours of the Day

“ॐ देवी महागौर्यै नमः” Chanting this mantra brings prosperity, removes sins, and blesses devotees with peace and happiness.

Maa Mahagauri purifies the soul and removes past karmic obstacles. Worshipping her on Day 8 brings peace, harmony, and good fortune. Considered highly auspicious for marriage and family happiness.

Significance

Devotees offer coconut, halwa-puri, kheer, and white sweets as bhog.  Maa is pleased with pure vegetarian sattvic food, especially white-coloured prasad.
