Also known as Chhoti Diwali, it is the second day of the Diwali festival. It marks the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

According to legend, Lord Krishna, Goddess Satyabhama, and Kali Mata destroyed the demon Narakasura who had imprisoned 16,000 women. After his defeat, people celebrated with lights and colors, giving rise to Chhoti Diwali!

Early morning oil bath (Abhyang Snan) is performed to purify body and soul. A mixture of sesame oil, sandalwood, and herbs is applied before sunrise. This ritual signifies removal of negativity and beginning of new light.

Light diyas before sunrise to welcome positivity. Offer prayers to Lord Krishna, Kali Mata, and Yama (God of Death). Chant mantras for protection and prosperity. Distribute sweets to family and neighbors.

Because it is celebrated one day before the main Diwali, it’s called “Small Diwali” or Chhoti Diwali. People clean their homes, decorate with rangoli, and light lamps — symbolizing the return of light before Diwali night.
