Legend & Significance 

Eat Sargi before dawn, given by mother-in-law, Apply Solah Shringar (16 adornments): sindoor, mangalsutra, mehndi, etc. Fast without food & water (nirjala vrat) from sunrise to moonrise In the evening, perform puja, moon sighting (through a sieve), then break fast with water given by husband
