Dhanteras 2025

Dhanteras 2025: The festival of Dhanteras, also known as Dhanatrayodashi, marks the first day of Diwali celebrations, which continue for five days. This year, Dhanteras will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18, 2025, with the Dhanteras Puja Muhurat starting at 07:29 PM and ending at 08:20 PM, according to Drik Panchang.

The Spirit of Dhanteras

Dhanteras is a day dedicated to wealth, prosperity, and well-being. On this day, Hindus worship Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth) and Lord Kuber (the God of prosperity) while observing the sacred Pradosh fast.

It is also considered highly auspicious to buy precious metals such as gold, silver, and brass utensils. Many also purchase electronics, vehicles, brooms, and home appliances, believing that new purchases on this day invite good fortune and abundance into the home.

In the evening, devotees light four clay or flour lamps (diyas) at the main entrance of their homes, symbolizing the welcoming of wealth and positivity. Idols of Lakshmi and Ganesha made from metal or clay are purchased for the evening Lakshmi Puja.

Deities Worshipped on Dhanteras

According to celebrity astrologer Parduman Suri, “Worshipping Lord Dhanvantari, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kubera, and Lord Yama during Dhanteras is believed to bring extraordinary blessings and protection.”

Lord Dhanvantari

The day of Dhanteras is also associated with Lord Dhanvantari, the God of Medicine, who is said to have emerged from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan carrying a pot of Amrit (nectar of immortality). Worshipping him promotes good health, longevity, and a disease-free life.

Goddess Lakshmi

Goddess Lakshmi symbolizes wealth, prosperity, and abundance. Invoking her blessings on Dhanteras is believed to open doors to financial success, stability, and good fortune.

Lord Ganesha

Known as the remover of obstacles, Lord Ganesha is worshipped to ensure that all business and personal endeavors proceed smoothly, bringing success and progress.

Lord Kubera

The divine treasurer of the Gods, Lord Kubera, represents wealth accumulation and financial growth. Worshipping him on Dhanteras brings business success and material prosperity.

Lord Yama

In Hindu tradition, a four-faced diya is lit at the entrance for Yamaraja, the God of Death, to protect family members from premature death. This ritual symbolizes long life and protection from misfortune.

The Essence of Dhanteras

Dhanteras beautifully combines spiritual devotion with material prosperity. The day is a reminder that true wealth lies in good health, strong relationships, and inner peace — not just in possessions.

As homes light up with diyas and hearts fill with gratitude, Dhanteras marks the beginning of the festival of lights — Diwali, celebrating hope, happiness, and harmony.
