
Paris Celebrates Chhath Mahaparv 2025: The sacred and grand festival of Chhath Mahaparv, one of the most revered celebrations of Purvanchal and Bihar, is now making waves across the world. This year, for the first time, the Indian diaspora in Paris, France, came together for a magnificent celebration of Chhath Milan 2025.
Organized by Bihar Spandan and the Bihar Foundation, the event witnessed the participation of more than 250 people from across France, marking a moment of cultural pride and devotion for the global Indian community.
A Divine Beginning with Music and Devotion
The program began with a soulful Ganesh Vandana performed by Anwar Hussain, the son of Padma Shri awardee and renowned folk singer Begum Batool. This was followed by a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Rahul on the significance and spiritual depth of Chhath Puja, which inspired the audience deeply.
Nitin Srivastava, originally from Varanasi and currently residing in France, shared that witnessing the colors and traditions of Purvanchal spreading through the fashion capital of Paris was an incredibly emotional and proud moment.
Cultural Unity Through Art and Music
Artists from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bengal, and other regions of India showcased diverse cultural performances, symbolizing India’s unity in diversity and national integration.
Representatives from the Indian Embassy in Paris, including the Defence Attaché, also attended the event, adding grace and diplomatic importance to the celebration.
The highlight of the evening was Anwar Hussain’s mesmerizing performance of traditional Chhath folk songs, dedicated to Chhathi Maiya (the Sun Goddess). The hall echoed with applause and devotion as attendees danced to the tunes of these sacred songs.
Unity, Culture, and Devotion
The organizing team — Avinash Mishra, Rajesh Kumar, Radhika Singh, Kamal Chettri, Omesh Joshi, Rushi Shah, and Nitin Srivastava — shared that Chhath Puja unites people across communities, celebrating the eternal bond between humanity and nature while preserving India’s rich cultural heritage.
They also announced plans to celebrate next year’s event on an even larger and more vibrant scale.
The chief sponsor, Avinash Mishra, expressed immense pride in representing Bihar and promoting its traditions abroad. The evening concluded with a traditional dinner and Chhath Prasad, featuring thekua, kheer, and other festive delicacies.
A Global Spiritual Moment
This celebration held special significance as it coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that the Government of India is working to include Chhath Mahaparv in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The historic Chhath Milan in Paris truly reflected the devotion, unity, and cultural pride of the global Indian community, showcasing how India’s traditions continue to shine brightly across continents.
